Rio Grande de Mindanao
The Mindanao River, also known as the Rio Grande de Mindanao, is the second largest river system in the Philippines, after the Cagayan River of Luzon. It is also the largest river on the southern Philippine island of Mindanao having a drainage area of 23,169 square kilometers, draining majority of the central and eastern portion of the island. At Quirino bridge of Cotabato City where Rio Grande de Mindanao also lies is a very historical site. It is where ShariffKabunsuan’s fleet arrived and landed on Maguindanao to spread Islam. At present, Cotabato City is celebrating an annual festival in honor of ShariffKabunsuan – the Ginakit Festival (ginakit – boat) on the month of December. This becomes one of the tourism activities of the place.

But on June 2011, a heavy rain caused the river to overflow that resulted to flooding that destroys the community, transportation, businesses and the living of the people in Cotabato City as a whole. With this, they spotted the cause of the problem which is the unlikely number of growth of WATER HYACINTH!
